NAS RoundTrip troubleshooting

This article describes how to troubleshoot basic connection issues with NAS RoundTrips (NAS RT).

Environment

  • Datto NAS RoundTrip

Description

Connection

Before starting the troubleshooting process, make sure that you have the correct physical connection between the Datto appliance and the RoundTrip NAS drive.

  • If you plan on moving the data over a switch that both the Datto and Roundtrip NAS are connected to, connect the ethernet cable to the LAN port.
  • If you plan on moving the data over a NIC to NIC connection with the Datto and the RoundTrip NAS directly connected, then connect an Ethernet cable to the NIC to NIC port on the RoundTrip NAS and the other end to an available port on the Datto. Also, attach a second ethernet cable from the LAN port on the RoundTrip NAS to a switch on the same network as the Datto. This second connect will help in troubleshooting the NIC to NIC if there are errors.
  • When connecting NIC to NIC, you'll need to set the IP mode on the Datto device to Link Local. You'll find IP mode settings on the Network Configuration page of the Datto device GUI. Once the transfer is complete, set the IP mode back to its previous setting.

If you have not already powered on the Datto NAS, turn it on and check the Synchronize tab to see if the device is discoverable.

Additional Troubleshooting

A monitor and keyboard will be needed to be connected to the Roundtrip device in order to verfy it has an IP address on the needed ports and is detecting the connection properly.

If the device is not getting an IP address:

  • We will need the user password that is unique to your RTNAS drive and is rotated frequently for security. To obtain the password for your unit, Contact Datto Technical Support

If the device is getting a valid IP address, but is still not discoverable by your datto device

  • Device side troubleshooting may be required and is best handled by support. Please Contact Datto Technical Support to review the connection configuration and the datto device for any potential issues.

NOTE  You should always start a RoundTrip through the Device Web interface.
