Understanding offsite synchronization with resumable streaming

This article describes resumable stream offsite synchronization.

Topic

Datto devices no longer build a send file before sending your data offsite. All Datto appliances now use resumable streaming to stream your data directly to the offsite server in the native ZFS format. Resumable streaming allows for faster uploads with no need to build files or start over in the event of an interruption. The Datto device streams the data to our cloud server and, in the event of an interruption, picks up right where it left off when the connection is restored. The offsite server compresses the snapshot as it receives it, and adds it to a queue for integration into the offsite data chain.

Replication status

To view the status of your offsite stream, navigate to the home page of the Device Web GUI. Scroll down to the Replication Status section of the page.

While streaming data, a cloud icon will appear next to the server's name. The replication status will say "Syncing backup,

Once the stream is complete, you'll see the date and time of the last successful synchronization displayed.
